Athens and the Parthenon

My second time here and it is even more fascinating. Maneuvering the crowds is the most difficult part and the marble steps are slippery and scarey but the fact that we can walk over the Acropolis, under Hadrien's Arch and touch these ancient stones still blows my mind. Our guide is an archiologist and her information is vast. Sometimes the "Mythology" gets mixed up with the "History" and makes it confusing to sort out...but fascinating none the less. We eats loads of fresh home grown tomatoes, olives, feta, spanokopita and olive oil every day....yea!!!!!!

Meteora!

What an amazing place! We traveled north from Athens to a city called Kalambaka where the cliffs (1000 feet straight up) jut straight up from earth and the top is not visable from the town. Placed on top are the monastaries where in the past could only be accessed by a basket that was lowered each day by the Monks to get food from the villagers. Only a few are now inhabited and the road up gave us access to these beautiful grounds. An amazing view....reminds me of St Michel (?sp) in France!!

Greece Update via email....

We are here in Greece. I took pics on the phone and sent them....must have missed a step. We are in Tinos and will head back across the Aegean tomorrow to the island of Poros to be at Athens on Sunday. What a great trip this has been. Our guide is an Archeologist as well as guide and she is so interesting. The food is fab and we have eaten more olives here than in our entire lives...together!!!! Havent done any shopping but lots of touring. I think Peter has over a thousand pictures...what night would you like to view them? LOL
Icons...we have seen them all and feel like long members of the Orthodox church!

PS - They will be home the beginning of next week.
